March 11, 2014 - It’s easy to ignore an occasional pain in our chests, shortness of breath, or sudden fatigue. But Doctors take these things seriously, because each are known symptoms of the #1 killer in America: heart disease.
Dr. Oz does not endorse any specific brand of Krill Oil. He only discussed the amazing health benefits of Krill Oil in general.
When most of us think heart health, one of the first things that come to mind are “Omega-3’s”. And the most common sources we hear are fish and fish oil.
But now, Dr. Oz (and many of his colleagues in the medical world) are confident krill oil is an even more powerful heart attack defender:
“Fish don’t actually make Omega-3’s, they eat Omega-3’s; often in the form of Krill. There’s a lot of research out there that says krill oil may be superior. The first reason is it’s absorbed faster...the second reason I like krill oil is that I think it’s stronger,” said Dr. Oz during one of his television episodes.
Toward the bottom of the food chain and hidden deep in some of the purest waters of the world—like Antarctica—you’ll find Krill, which are tiny shrimp-like crustaceans.
Naturally, the oil is extracted from these krill, which are considered to be the largest biomass in the world. Recent estimates showed a massive 500 Million tons of krill currently inhabiting the oceans.
Most importantly, since krill are lower on the food chain, their diet has proven to be less likely to contain the harmful Mercury, PCBs, radioactive substances, and toxic metals commonly found in fish.
Studies have shown the secret to be two-fold:
First, krill oil and fish oil are very different in how they break down in our bodies.
Fish oil, which is in a triglyceride molecule, has to be broken down in your belly to its base fatty acids of DHA and EPA (omega-3’s).
During this process, nearly 80-85 percent is never absorbed and is eliminated in your intestine.
Remaining fatty acids are then absorbed into your blood stream, where your liver then has to attach it to a phospholipid for it to be used by your body.
Krill Oil, on the other hand, is already in phospholipid form.
This allows your body to absorb nearly 100 percent of the heartsaving DHA and EPA fatty acids, and do so much faster than fish oil.
The second secret to krill oil’s effectiveness?
Studies have found it contains 48 times more powerful antioxidants than fish oil, the most important being “astaxanthin”.
This is key, because as you increase your intake of omega-3‘s (DHL and EPA), you increase your need for these antioxidants.
Plus, antioxidants prevent the perishable DHA and EPA from going rancid.
In another television segment, Dr. Oz interviewed Dr. Tod Cooperman, President of ConsumerLab.com, who said this sort of spoilage is another common problem with fish oil supplements:
“We purchased 24 fish oil supplements and found that 30 percent failed our tests, for either containing too little of the omega-3’s or for being spoiled even though they were well packaged and tested before expiration.”
This was surprising to hear.
But since krill oil is absorbed quicker and more efficiently than fish oil, it makes sense that it should take less to get the benefits of using it.
Dr. Oz noted: “A big study that was just done showed that 1,000 mg of krill oil had the same effect as 3,000 mg of fish oil.”
This is also why krill oil supplements are much smaller than fish oil.
Ever hear of the nasty “fish burps” many people experience when taking fish oil supplements?
Fish burps occur due to what was mentioned above — how 80-85% of fatty acids from fish oil are never absorbed and instead go into your intestine.
Since nearly 100% of krill oil is absorbed, fish burps never occur.

OmegaK Pure Antarctic Krill Oil is quickly becoming the "go to" natural healthy heart supplement.
One secret to krill oil’s effectiveness, and what allows it to yield benefits faster than fish oil, is its “phospholipid” structure. Fish oil has to be broken down, absorbed, and then attached to a phospholipid. Krill oil, however, is already in phospholipid form, and therefore readily absorbed by your body.
The benefits of this, are that nearly 100% of krill oil is absorbed, “fish burps” never occur, and it takes roughly one-third LESS krill oil to protect yourself from a heart attack.
